Q. My parents have health and mobility issues so doing something like getting to your office is the kind of task that is often exceedingly difficult, stressful and anxiety-inducing for them. I am a little upset that they would be held hostage to “choose” to pay your fee for a home visit as they really have no choice.
A. I have a great deal of compassion for my senior clients who find themselves in this type of situation, but you must remember that this is a service and the time spent out of the office is often double that of clients who do come in. If they choose not to see me or another notary/lawyer, that may result in someone having to obtain committeeship in due course (court appointed “power of attorney”) which would be thousands of dollars!
The moral of this story? Please don’t wait until you need these documents because if you need them, it is often too late to do them!
